Fashion: Styling Coloured Pants

Coloured pants. Something I thought to be completely ridiculous and silly when the trend was introduced for spring of last year. Since then, my opinion has most definitely changed from being unsure and despising them, to considering them a staple in any wardrobe. Coloured pants are just the thing when looking to switch up your look (bye bye leggings!) Whether they're vibrant, pale, or anything in between; coloured pants can be the perfect piece to add an extra touch of personality to any outfit.

Once you have your perfect colour of jeans- styling can be intimidating. And wearing them out for the first time can definitely be a bit nerve racking; but when paired with the right items you'll be confidently rocking those trendy jeans in no time.

Colour + Neutrals

One of the easiest ways to wear some bright jeans is to keep everything else neutral. Keeping up top to the white's, grey's or black's is a safe way to keep your vibrant bottoms simple. Having a fairly quiet top will put more attention on your pants and will help balance out the look. Mixing classic colours and styles with a trendy colour will have you finding the perfect medium.

Pants: Vera Moda, Tank: Hollister

For this outfit I specifically like the way the cardigan adds texture with the heavy but loose knit. An intermixture of textures and materials will help break up a seemingly smooth canvas, the eye won't only be caught by the brave pant choice but also by the various textures creating an overall balanced look.

Patterns + Denim

If your not wearing denim on the bottom- why not wear it on top? Denim really does go with everything, especially with coloured jeans. It provides just the right amount of coolness and colour to make your jeans pop. Denim's just like another neutral, it's another option to your black sweater that is more suitable for the warmer weather. A patterned top and vest draws a little more attention to the overall outfit, rather than just the pants.

Jeans: American Eagle, Top: JCrew
A structured denim vest is casual, yet it pulls together and polishes a look instantly. Its a cool way to be chic and comfortable -perfect for day shopping or going out for a lunch date with your girls.

Stripes + Button Down

Button down shirts are another versatile way to dress up coloured pants or make them more cool and effortless. A boyfriend shirt can be tucked in and buttoned up to the collar with a necklace to make your colourful jeans more professional. Or undo those buttons and let the breeze flow through the shirt and pair it with a simple tshirt.

In this outfit, I chose a more beach casual outfit. The button up undone with the nautical tshirt underneath and the cuffed peach jeans is simply sweet for a spring day. Paired with a silver necklace to add some detail and some double strapped flip flops this ensemble is the perfect fit for a lazy stroll in the spring.

Coloured jeans are an easy, yet unexpected way to change up any style into one a little lighter and a little brighter for the upcoming spring and summer. With a few easy tips using pieces you probably already own, you'll be rocking those bright bottoms just in time for the warmer (and hopefully sunnier!) months to come.
