A Review: Maybelline Eyestudio 24hr Color Tattoo

Tattoos are something a lot of people will love- or hate. However; feelings aside tattoos are artwork permanently inked on your skin. Branding that word on a makeup product can mean one thing, and one thing only- it must be long lasting. The Maybelline Eyestudio line has drawn me in before and has drawn me in yet again. With claims to last up to 24 hours and a wide range of gorgeous shades- I was convinced. Not long after their release I excitedly picked up two shades from the Maybelline 24 Hr Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows, eager to put their name to the test.

The two shades I picked up were 45 Bold Gold from the original line, and 70 Barely Branded from the more recent Metal line. They are potted cream/gel shadows that claim to be super saturated, long lasting, and have a colour that doesn't fade.

Both colours are equally as fresh and vibrant. Bold Gold is a very true gold colour- not to much yellow, not too much orange with a metallic sheen and a few sparkles in the mix. Barely Branded is a soft champaign colour, it's very light with a pinky hue incorporated in the cream base. Both are very pigmented and vibrant- one perfect for night and for day.

The textures are very creamy, but don't always apply the smoothest. With the gold shade, I find that the shadow applies smooth and steady but with clumps of product that can't be blended out. With the lighter shade I find it doesn't apply evenly all over the lid with your finger so I have taken to using a concealer brush to apply it.

Wearing both of these shadows with a primer underneath, one creases, one doesn't. Bold Gold stands true to its name and will not budge or smudge throughout the whole day- blood, sweat, and tears- it'll last. Barely Branded on the other hand, I have had trouble with it creasing after 6-7 hours, even with an eyeshadow on top to set it.

Pro's:
- Drugstore (accessible + cheap)
- Wide Range of colours
- Generally smooth
- Easy application
- Waterproof
- Does not smudge

Con's:
- May clump/flake
- Might crease

Within this range of shadows, there is two lines, the original (Bold Gold) and the exclusive Metal Line (Barely Branded.) They are both contrasting to each other, so it is possible that the formulation was slightly changed when creating the second line.

Although these shadows on me do not entirely live up to their name, they are still beautiful colours that are quick and easy to apply and don't smudge. Even with the slight clumping and creasing I will still use these products as the colours and textures will be absolutely fab for the spring and summer. 24 hr Maybelline colour tattoos, some seem to love them, others hate 'em- I have a feeling I fall somewhere in the middle.
