Fashion: One Skirt, 4 Outfits

With the cold winter subsiding and the spring weather coming out, it's time to put away the jeans and leggings and bring back those skirts you tucked away to the back of your closet. It's finally time to get out of the winter rut and to jump into the fresh spring style. When it comes to styling a skirt, we often come up with one adorable on-trend outfit - and nothing else. Not wanting to offend the 'never wear the same outfit twice' the skirt gets its one glorious outing, then is banished to the back of your closet to collect dust rather than compliments.

Here I have put together four different looks, with the same skirt. The outfits are very varying from dressy to casual, daytime to evening, only proving that you can in fact wear the same piece over and over again- no fashion laws broken.

This first outfit is a day time casual for more of those chilly, early spring days. The light materials are perfect for spring, keeping you warm with the loose knit sweater, but not too warm when paired with the flirty, flouncy skirt. Tying up any shirt into a knot is a quick trick to dress down an outfit, and gives an extra nod of detail.  I kept the accessories simple with a long silver necklace to add a little more attention to the neckline. The simple sun hat ties together the look along with the equally as simple brown bag. This simply sweet outfit seems to be a perfect fit for an afternoon date along the pier with some ice cream, hand in hand, enjoying the spring weather.

The second ensemble is more conservative/dressy, great for a lunch with the family, while keeping on trend. The denim shirt buttoned up gives a slightly more casual look to your classic oxford, but when paired with a blingy statement necklace- it's meets the perfect medium. A big knit sweater overtop is an addition to the 'preppy' classy look, while being the perfect thing to throw over when it gets chilly. To pull the look together I added this fun, patchwork little bag with a big flower pin, it adds some fun to this otherwise 'serious' outfit. This look is halfway between business and casual with the untraditional spin on the oxford and with the fun bag, it makes for a versatile spring time outfit for many places and occasions.

For the third outfit, I picture hanging out during the end of spring, in anticipation of the summer to begin at the beach, or a party or even shopping in the city. With the skirt, I pared a loose fitting tank top, in the same colour as the skirt- making an honorary dress. Of course you can pare any tank top with the skirt, but I specifically liked the idea of taking a skirt and tank, and making it into dress. I added a gold braided belt to break up the colour, and a denim vest- because a denim vest instantly adds some detail and edge to an outfit. Again I added my brown bag to the mix, with the gold hardware it ties in well with the gold belt. Wheather you are shopping or splashing around in the cool ocean waiting for the long summer nights, this is a fun casual outfit that will make transition from spring to summer a breeze.

The last outfit is feminine, girly and just peachy all around. The skirt parred with a classic tshirt is quite the typical outfit. Opt the ordinary tshirt for a more on-trend that has embelishments on the shoulders or studs. Since the shirt already has some bling, I didn't add any accessories, if anything a bracelet would do the trick. For an evening I would add a denim jacket, it's a great for some warmth and will compliment the colours beautifully. This is the ultimate sweet and girly outfit- for a date with your man, your mom, or just your girlfriends- sport it with some nude flats or some light brown wedges and your set!

So there you have it, one skirt- four outfits all sporting the flirtatious skirt differently. Don't let that skirt have a single glory day, then spend the rest of the season in the closet- try it out with different parings, hopefully these four ensembles can help you get out of the winter rut of boots, jeans, and sweater over sweater, then a jacket to bring it all in, and help you shed off those layers for the warmer and sunnier (fingers crossed) spring time.
