A Review: NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Candy Land & Swatches

Drugstores and high end makeup brands are packed with lip products- every hybrid form of lipstick imaginable. Theres the balm stains, the tinted balms, the lip butters, the lip felt stains, glossy stains, lip laquers... and the list goes on! It's no doubt that someone would come up with a liquid lipstick, and here to bring us just that is NYX with the Xtreme Lip Cream.

These Lip Creams claim to be like nothing you've ever experienced- a liquid lipstick that goes on with full Xtreme colour and intense shine coming with 0.2oz/7ml of product ringing in around $6.99- $8.99. These lip creams are cruelty free (bonus!) and come with a doe foot applicator (double bonus!) The applicator is on the pointy side which comes in handy when sculpting the lip creame around your cupids bow. The one problem?  It can leave the lip product streaky before you pucker up to move and even out the cream, so be sure to smack your lips well before heading out the door.

The colour that drew me in was 02 Candy Land, a cool, mauve pink that appears to be a subtle, "your lips but better," colour, but in reality is quite bright and pink. The formulation is really like you melted a lipstick, its thick and almost like peanut butter (but definitely not greasy!) It's like a liquid concealer  (the Revlon Colorstay) much like this product, it is very pigmented, has a creamy consistency, and is impressively long lasting.

This lip cream isn't one to be grabbed in a rush, the pigmentation and the 'liquidness' of it can definitely make a mess. However with careful application this can be just the finishing touch to your look. When first applied the liquid lipstick has a glossy sheen, but can very easily be transferred on your teeth (yikes!) so be sure to swipe your teeth every so often. The glossy sheen fades a way quickly, but the colour lasts through talking and drinking. With a few hours wear the colour is still present, but it does begin to slightly settle into lines and creases in your lips. For a quick fix run some lip balm over your lips to blend the colour and help fade the build up of colour.

Overall this isn't a lip product I'll be reaching for too often as it requires a little hassle before it's good to go. But with that being said this still is a very good product, it holds an "Xtreme" amount of  pigmentation and doesn't catch on any dry parts of your lips. It has lasting colour and an easy applicator aiding in application of the lip cream.

Pro's:

- Very pigmented and thick
- Colour lasts for hours and through drinking
- Applicator makes application easier
- Drugstore

Con's:

- Can be a hassle to apply (can be messy)
- Gets on teeth
- Gloss fades quickly

Although makeup companies have come out with seemingly all combinations of lipstick possible- I look forward to seeing what they come up with next. As for the NYX Xtreme Lip Cream, I look forward to trying more colours and formulations to see which is truly, the most, "Xtreme."
